Remarkable and beautiful Mammoth Tooth.   Ice Age North Sea.  A wonderful present for a collector – be  that you or a loved one – or maybe a mammoth colleague who is retiring – great trophy to keep and remember you by!

This bone was dredged from the North Sea by a Dutch fishing vessel.   The Mammoth was part of a fauna of large mammals which we associate more with Africa than the temperate zones of Europe but which flourished this far North during the interglacial period, 20,000 years ago.

Originally, the body of the Mammoth would have  been washed up  on the Ox-Bow bend of a river, somewhere on the land bridge between England and Holland.    Before the massive rise in sea levels which happened after the last Ice Age, this land bridge  separated the United Kingdom from Europe.

Without the demand  created by interest in fossils, this bone would no doubt have gone back to lie on the sea bed.  We learn so much of our own history and that of the planet on which we live by studying fossils and the soil on which we stand.  A amazing piece to treasure and keep the spirit of the Woolly Mammoth alive forever!
